Every year Dewsbury Arts Group produces its own Calendar which is illustrated by an annual theme. The illustrations for each month are produced by Artist Members of the Group. The Calendar is printed by Coryph Design and Print, Leeds, and assistance in marketing is given through Spectrum's shop in Dewsbury. First printed in 1984 these are now becoming collectors items.
Artist Members are encouraged to become involved in the theatrical activities of the Group and might produce set designs and publicity designs for specific productions.
The centre of activities is based at the Group's premises in Lower Peel Street, off Bradford Road, Dewsbury, where all artist and general members are welcome to attend our pleasant and relaxed meetings which are held from September to April. Life Drawing Sessions are held regularly and the models offer a good variety to challenge us. Whilst no tuition is formally given at these sessions, the regular members are always available with helpful advice for beginners. We also hold Art Discussion Evenings currently led by Robert Donald who has a most comprehensive range of slides with which he keeps us up to date on the visual world. Interesting and innovative films are shown towards Christmas at our free Film Study Evening.
An Art Demonstration is held each Spring at which we have been privileged to see Arthur Blamires, Granville Walker and Bruce Mulcahy in action.
Artist Members of the Group are both amateur and professional and their work covers a wide range of style and media. To become an Artist Member you will be asked to submit samples of your work to be viewed by a Selection Panel. This is not a daunting process and can be easily arranged once an application for members has been received by the Group Secretary.
