ANN WALKER and COLIN BOWMAN, currently in Uzbekistan. (December 2009) Please pass on to members our best wishes for a happy Christmas and a successful New Year. We really do miss the Group’s productions and also those of the Batley G and S society. Hopefully we will be back in the UK in time to enjoy The Little Shop Of Horrors. At school we have just finished a production of ‘Into The Woods’, plenty of tongue-twisting songs for non-English speakers! We go onto the DAG website reasonably frequently – the message board hasn’t changed for over a year! Best wishes from Uzbekistan. JUERGEN MUENSTERMANN - Unna, Germany Congratulations to the impressive website - and what fond memories the pictures of your visit bring back. Ahhhh...the pouring rain.... HANS & MARGARETH DURR - Germany Hallo , Euer Internetauftritt ist sehr professionell! Wir freuen uns schon auf Euch. Liebe Grüße an alle "Good Companions". DEREK BANHAM - Surrey Visited the site and felt even older as I noted that DAG will be 40 next year. However it does seem a very, very long time ago that we heard the two young teachers Holmes and Wood going on about the need for such an organisation. That was 1959. It took another four years before it actually became a reality by which time we were back down south and living in Wallington. We were kept up to date with the group's progress by Geoffrey's letters and occasional visits. One interesting fact I noted is that the Group's first production "The Bear" was performed for the Russian Ambassador at Leeds University and the cast were presented to him after the show!! It was many years before we were able to witness a production ourselves but we did get up to see Geoff's productions of "Ludd" by John McKendrick and "Accrington Pals" by Peter Whelan, both extremely professional productions of a very high standard. I even, remotely, took part in a DAG production myself. David did a piece on the old Empire Theatre where I used to work and asked me for some taped reminiscences. These I provided and, I am told, a short clip was used in the show. __________________________________________________________________ Email your message to - thornhillfletch@aol.com |
