Our featured artist this month is Mary Claire O'Brien. Mary-Claire graduated with a B.A (Hons) Fine Art (Sculpture) from Gloucestershire College of Art and Design. She has also studied dance professionally and has created interdisciplinary multimedia projects combining choreography, drawing and installation. She now teaches art classes at the Open Door Studio, Wexford.
Mary Claire uses mixed media often combining ceramic, steel or glass with everyday objects. She has explored themes of fragility, vulnerability and impermanence in a series of related works.
Mary Claire is currently working on smoke fired ceramic porcelain forms, reminiscent of Sanskrit writing and is creating a personal unique sacred writing to be smoke fired onto the forms.
